In 2025, 885,100 Filipinos flew to Japan, according to the Japan National Tourism Organization. That is about 2,400 Filipinos landing in Japan every day, and almost all of them needed a visa first. The route to that visa looks very different from when we wrote our first Japan guides in 2022. There is a visa centre now, an eVISA for some, and a July 2026 fee hike that did not touch Philippine passports.

Japan visa for Filipinos: the quick answer for 2026
Here is the short version, as of 28 September 2026:
- Do Filipinos need a visa for Japan? Yes. Philippine passport holders need a visa for any visit, including a short holiday. There is no visa-free entry and no visa on arrival.
- Visa fee: none. The embassy confirmed in June 2026 that a temporary visitor visa for Philippine nationals, for stays of up to 90 days, “remains gratis,” even after Japan raised visa fees for other nationalities on 1 July 2026.
